FWPI Member Event

Fort Wayne Pickleball INC "Summer Smash" Tournament 2023

The first of two 2023 Fort Wayne Pickleball INC member Tournaments is the "Summer Smash". 

It will be held on June 3-4 at Indian Trails Park in Fort Wayne, IN 

  • For FWPI Members:  To enter this event you must be a FWPI member.  You can be come a member by joining FWPI right now here.

  • Date:  June 3rd (Mens/Womens Doubles) and June 4th (Mixed Doubles)

  • Start Time:  9:00am each day

  • Location:  Indian Trails Park with eight REAL Pickleball courts. Indian Trails is located behind the Jorgensen YMCA at 10313 Aboite Center Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804

  • Format:  Small Round Robin for seeding followed by double elimination for all teams in bracket with a four game minimum. Tournament Director reserves the right to change format based on teams entered, weather, etc. 

  • Skill Levels:  2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5+  Skill levels first, then age if enough in bracket.

  • Cost:  $20 per event

  • Inclement Weather:  There are no make up dates or refunds due to Inclement weather.

  • Registration Begins:  April 8, 2023

  • Registration Cutoff Date:  May 20, 2023

  • Last Day for Refunds:  May 25, 2023

  • Ball:  Franklin X-40 Optic Yellow Outdoor Ball

Brackets and Start Times:

  • Start times will be announce a few days before tournament date. Please report to courts at least 30 minutes prior to your start time and check in. Matches may start early if courts are available.

  • Start times are estimated so no guarantee they will start at that time.

  • Make sure you know which bracket you are in. 

  • You will be playing in the highest rated person's bracket (e.g., a 3.0 paired with a 3.5 will play at the 3.5 level). All persons were put in the level they asked for. If you are not sure, email us at  fwpickleballtournament@gmail.com

 

Maximum number of participants each day is 200.  Estimated start times will be determined by the number of registrants in each division.  Check back to this site to get the actual start times.

Sunday, June 4

  • 2.5 Mixed doubles- Start time TBD

  • 3.5 Mixed doubles- Start time TBD

  • 3.0 Mixed doubles - Start time TBD

  • 4.0 Mixed doubles - Start time TBD

  • 4.5+ Mixed doubles - Start time TBD

  • Brackets with four teams or more will play be placed in pools of three or four and play two pool games to determine seeding.  Play will then be double elimination tournament.

  • Brackets with two teams will play two pool games against teams in another flight.  Then, will play each other in a double elimination format.

  • Brackets with three teams will play a double round robin to decide winner.

 Game Scoring

  • ALL pool games will be one game to 11 straight up.  NOT win by 2.

  • Double round robin games will be to one game to 15 win by 2.

  • Winner's bracket games in double elimination tournament will be to one game to 15 win by 2.

  • Loser's bracket games in double elimination tournament (including bronze medal match) will be to one game to 11 win by 2.

 

Partner Changes

June 2nd, is the deadline to change divisions.  If you haven't found a partner or lose a partner, your new partner must be at your registered level or below.  You may still make changes after June 2nd and up until play starts, but you will be locked into your division as of midnight on June 2nd.

 

Other Info

Please bring your own water (we will have some there also, you may want to bring chairs, or anything else you may need).

As a SPECIAL ADD-ON this year, we are integrating our Cookout into this event. Around noon on Saturday, June 3rd, we will be providing meat (pulled pork and hots dogs) for all Fort Wayne Pickleball Members, whether playing in the tournament or not. Please bring a side dish to pass to share with everyone. For any non-members, there will be a cost of $5 to eat.  

You must be a current member of Fort Wayne Pickleball to play in this tournament. To renew your membership (it's only $10 a year plus $1 online fee) or for new members sign up here. You do not need to live in Fort Wayne to join our Pickleball group so sign up now and play in a really fun tournament!
